Pet Advocacy Network Urges Gov. Ron DeSantis to Sign “Trooper’s Law”
Law Would Create Criminal Penalties for Abandoning a Restrained Dog Outside During a Natural Disaster, Empower Advocates
Alexandria, Va. – Today, the Pet Advocacy Network (PAN) urged Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to sign SB 150, known as Trooper’s Law, as it heads to his desk this week.
Alyssa Miller-Hurley, Vice President of Government Affairs at PAN, provided expert testimony in the Florida legislature supporting the measure. “This commonsense law would create additional penalties for people who abandon a dog restrained outside during a natural disaster,” said Miller-Hurley. “There’s never an acceptable excuse for such gross animal cruelty and neglect, even during an emergency. Florida has long been a leader in animal welfare, and by signing Trooper’s Law, Gov. DeSantis will reaffirm the state’s commitment to protecting some of its most vulnerable residents—its pets.”
