OP-ED: Pet stores and rescues are not enemies

Connecticut’s House Bill 5283, which would allow municipalities to ban pet store sales of animals, is based on a false narrative that pits pet shops against rescues. A guest op-ed in CT Mirror argues that in addition to removing transparent, regulated options, the measure would threaten jobs and undermine rescues that rely on pet stores.

“If Manchester bans pet shop sales, The Dog House closes,” the author notes. “Nineteen people, many of whom have worked here for decades, lose their jobs. And the rescue that shares this building, which depends on the pet shop to cover rent and payroll, loses its foundation.”
