Oppose Pet Prohibition in California!
Tell your local elected officials to reject efforts to ban responsible pet sales and protect pets and consumer choice.
Activists are pressuring local governments across California to ban all pet sales at licensed pet stores. Your city could be the next target.
These bans would include fish, birds, reptiles, small mammals and invertibrates.
Without local stores as an option, many people sadly won’t get a pet. Other people will look for pets in less regulated sources, including online marketplaces and out-of-state sellers where transparency and oversight are limited.
Some of these sources even traffic wildlife from abroad to supply the pet “black market.”
Local pet stores provide consumers with a responsible option to get a pet and play an important role in education and animal care. They are also regulated and inspected by the state.
California should prioritize practical policies that support responsible pet ownership and reject policies that diminish the human-animal bond.
Take Action!
Contact your local officials and urge them to oppose efforts to restrict responsible retail pet sales.
