Protect Pet Choice in West Hollywood!
The West Hollywood City Council is attempting to expand its long-standing ban on pet sales, this time targeting nearly every species sold in pet stores, including birds, fish, reptiles, rodents, and other small animals.
This ordinance (CA ORD 2025002) won’t stop cruelty or help animals at all. It’ll do the opposite.
If finalized, this ordinance will:
- Drive families to unregulated online sellers and social media scams.
- Leave underground and irresponsible breeders untouched.
- Remove consumer protections and traceability for pets.
- Shut down safe, responsible pet businesses in our community.
Responsible pet stores and breeders give families safe, humane, and transparent options for bringing animals into their homes. Extreme bans like the West Hollywood proposal remove these protections and push people toward risky, unregulated markets.
West Hollywood has always valued progressive animal welfare—but this approach misses the mark. Instead of protecting animals, it hurts families and small businesses while doing nothing to address the root problem.
Tell the West Hollywood City Council to stop CA ORD 2025002. Protect responsible pet ownership, consumer choice, and animal welfare.
