Manager, Government Affairs

The Pet Advocacy Network, a national trade association engaged in government affairs and advocacy on behalf of the responsible pet care community, seeks to hire an experienced government relations professional for the position of Government Affairs Manager. This position is based in Alexandria, VA.

Position Responsibilities:

· Managing all aspects of a multi-state legislative/regulatory portfolio including tracking legislation, writing testimony, meeting with lawmakers, coalition building and management, and managing contract lobbyists

· Managing efforts of an issue- or sector-specific committee within the organization including regular conference calls

· Working with communications staff to develop and distribute communication, education, and public awareness tools to support the overall legislative and regulatory strategy

· Managing database and outreach for grassroots advocates and association members

· Some travel required (face-to-face meetings with legislators and staff, testimony, industry events)

Professional Experience:

· Three to five years of trade association, Capitol Hill, or state legislative staff experience

· Experience coordinating legislative and grassroots operations

· Experience with database and/or membership management software, as well as web management systems (such as WordPress)

· Experience with grassroots advocacy tools (such as VoterVoice)

· Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills
