Featured Focus: Mid-Year Legislative & Regulatory Report

All year long, we advocate for you—monitoring pet-related legislation and regulations and arguing against those that would harm pet companies, while supporting those that promote responsible pet ownership and the human-animal bond. Our mid-year report shares some highlights, from wins on international shipping reforms that will relieve pet product export and import delays to increased penalties for aquatic resource violation convictions in Hawaii, and more.

Resource Round Up: New Interactive State & Federal Issues Map

One of our favorite features of the new website is the updated, interactive state and federal issues map, which highlights government actions that may affect your business, your customers or the pet care sector as a whole. To use the map, click on your state or the subject of interest, and a list of relevant legislation will emerge. Then, click on a bill to see its current status or to read its full text.

Memorable Moment #1: Fifth Annual Pet Care Community D.C. Fly-In Invitation

Our fifth annual Pet Care Community D.C. Fly-In is on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, and we’re thrilled that we expect that these meetings will take place in person on Capitol Hill again this year. You’ll learn about the latest scientific data on the benefits of pets to both people and the economy, and get to network with pet professionals and government officials while advocating for issues that are important to your pet business. The fly-in is free to attend, and everyone in the responsible pet care community is encouraged to join us.

Memorable Moment #2: New Focus on Membership

In May, we welcomed Alison Stern as our new Membership Director. She’ll be using her extensive membership management experience, most recently with the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI), to upgrade our member services, and to create and implement recruitment and retention initiatives. She’ll be contacting all our members personally, so expect a call from her soon.

If you are interested in serving on our newly revitalized membership committee, or have any membership questions, contact her at [email protected] or 202-452-1525 ext. 1020.
