OP-ED: Why banning pet store sales won’t close a single puppy mill in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania lawmakers are debating legislation that would ban pet shops from selling dogs and cats. Alyssa Miller-Hurley, vice president of government affairs at the Pet Advocacy Network, published an op-ed in PennLive, warning that a retail pet store ban would eliminate consumer protections and push buyers toward unregulated online sellers and scammers.
“We should absolutely crack down on unlicensed, irresponsible breeders. But we should protect responsible businesses that offer families a choice,” writes Miller-Hurley. “This pending legislation would undo this system of protection, throwing families, businesses, and pets to the wolves.”
