The Pet Advocacy Network Applauds Passage of PA SB82, Championing Improved Care for Dogs

Harrisburg, PA, – The Pet Advocacy Network (PAN) commends the Pennsylvania legislature for their bipartisan effort in passing PA SB82, a significant bill aimed at better caring for dogs, including those from out of state.

The bill, which passed both chambers unanimously, addresses, among other concerns, the critical issue of the 14-day isolation quarantine requirement for any dogs entering Pennsylvania from out of state or out of country. This legislation is the result of months of dedicated work and collaboration between the responsible pet care community and the Pennsylvania legislature, and we encourage Governor Shapiro to sign it. Once signed, this updated regulation and guidance will take effect in 60 days.

“This is a great, bipartisan win for pets and their owners in Pennsylvania,” said Mike Bober, PAN President and CEO. “The passage of PA SB82 demonstrates a deep commitment to the well-being of dogs and responsible pet ownership. By revisiting and updating this regulation, our lawmakers have shown their continued dedication to making sensible and compassionate decisions for Pennsylvanians and their pets.”

Alyssa Miller-Hurley, Vice President of Government Affairs at PAN, added, “This achievement highlights the power of collective action and the importance bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders with their elected representatives. The efforts between our coalition members, who worked tirelessly to meet with and inform legislators and officials from the Department of Agriculture about the harm that can be done when a dog is kept alone and in isolation for two weeks cannot be understated. Their years of experience in animal care were critical when it came to crafting a bill that addresses the concerns and suggestions of the pet care community. We are thrilled to see this positive outcome and the relief it will bring to the responsible pet care community in Pennsylvania.”

The passage of PA SB82 underscores the effectiveness of bipartisan cooperation in advancing animal welfare. PAN extends its gratitude to all involved parties for their unwavering support and dedication to this cause.
